Deformation oriented Somatic Interface integrated Force-Myography and Skin-Stretch
ExFascia
// 01
ExFascia is a new interface capable of acquiring, presenting and transmitting deformations of the body surface, and many applications can be realized by utilizing ExFascia modules.
Concept
// 02
The flexible surface of the human body allows tactile knowledge of information about the rich environmental world, and is also the interface at which subject’s internal state are represented. We propose a new somatic interface that combines skin-stretch, which presents skin deformations, and force-myography, which captures skin deformations caused by muscle activity. The hardware is equipped with several elements to present and sense the distribution of deformations.
System
// 03
Sensing and presentation are mechanically isolated and can be used simultaneously without influence from each other. Furthermore, the modules can be connected to each other to facilitate multi-part, multi-person use. This interface can be applied to human-computer and computer-mediated human interaction, such as force skill learning, force sensation recording and playback, and real-time muscle sensation sharing.
Applications
// 04
Force-oriented recording and playback
Real-time force based interaction
Motor skill training based on real-time muscle activity sharing
